GCash, Grab team up for cashless payment solution

Users of super app Grab will be able to pay for services through e-wallet GCash by February after the two major technology players inked a partnership for a payment solution.

On Thursday, Grab and GCash formally announced their collaboration, which is seen to encourage more users to use their platforms given the synergy of services they provide.

Users will be able to link their GCash and GrabPay accounts, similar to enrolling debit or credit cards for online payments.

This feature can generate savings for users as this eliminates the need to send money to GrabPay accounts from a digital banking or e-wallet account, which requires additional costs in the form of transfer fees.

GCash chief commercial officer Ren-Ren Reyes, in an event in Taguig, said:
“It is our responsibility to continue improving the overall experience when using our platforms. This means partnering with the like-minded brands that share commitment to continuously improve and create a seamless experience while reaching more customers nationwide.”

Grab Financial Group head Martha Borja said the tie-up sought to support the government’s financial inclusion goal, adding: “There is still so many Filipinos that have not shifted to cashless payments and we want to be able to push forward with this agenda even more.”

Reyes said the integrated platforms have protection against potential fraud, noting that transactions require double authentication.

Borja said the payment mode was focused on the Philippines for now but they were open to expanding it regionally.
