Gayle King didn’t hold back on the alleged affair between ABC’s “Good Morning America 3” co-anchors Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes, calling the scandal “very messy” and “sloppy.”
The “CBS Mornings” co-host told Andy Cohen on CNN’s “Watch What Happens Live” Thursday night that she was initially supportive of the relationship between the married hosts until more information came out.
“It’s just gotten very messy and very sloppy,” King said, pointing out that Robach and Holmes each had spouses when their affair began.
“In the beginning I actually thought, good on ‘Good Morning America.’ They’re saying they’re not taking them off the air. It’s two consenting adults,” King said. “But then the more you read — it’s just very messy.”
“I think, to me, it’s just a sad situation because you’ve got kids involved, you’ve got families involved, and I keep thinking about that. I’m very concerned about that,” said 67-year-old King.
ABC News yanked Robach, 49, and Holmes, 45, off “GMA3” this week as the details of Holmes’ personal life began to unravel after the Daily Mail published leaked photos and videos of the pair getting cozy, causing execs to hold “emergency meetings” and examine the new information.
While Robach is in the process of divorcing her now-estranged husband, actor Andrew Shue, Page Six broke the news that Holmes’ wife, Marilee Fiebig, was “blindsided” by his affair.
The couple had not only been trying to reconcile, but Fiebig, a New York-based lawyer, also had previously kept her focus on her husband’s other affair with another “GMA” producer named Natasha Singh.
“She fell in love with him. He had a key to her apartment,” an insider told Page Six of Singh’s romance with Holmes.
Holmes also had allegedly cheated on Fiebig with other ABC staffers, prompting an internal investigation at the Disney-owned network to see whether Holmes’ behavior violated any company policies.
“It’s one thing for him to have a relationship with another anchor,” the insider added. “The question is whether he violated company rules by dating less senior employees.”
