Gary Neville has urged Jesse Lingard to ‘move on’ with the Manchester United star reportedly left unhappy after not getting an Old Trafford farewell.

United eased to a 3-0 win over Brentford on Monday night with Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata both giving a standing ovation from the home crowd in what was their last home game for the club.

Lingard is also among the clutch of players expected to leave this summer but remained on the bench that night.

Monday’s snub provoked an angry outburst from Lingard’s brother, Louie Scott, who posted an emotional message on Instagram, slating Rangnick and United as a whole.

Former United captain Neville has been left perplexed by the ‘fuss’ over the situation, insisting ‘far better players’ left the club without getting the send off they might have wanted.

‘I don’t get the Lingard fuss at all,’ Neville wrote on Twitter on Friday.

‘I saw far better players than him not get a perfect send off. He wants to leave, he wanted a free transfer. He’s got it. Move on.’

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Ralf Rangnick hit back at suggestions that Lingard has been mistreated.

He said: ‘To start with, in the last couple of weeks under my tenure he (Lingard) has played far more games than he used to.

Number two, on game day against Chelsea he asked me to release him from the game and training the following day for personal family reasons.’

He continued: ‘Against Brentford with only three subs I had to take a decision between Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard, or the young Alejandro Garnacho, who I would have loved to have brought on and given a chance to play.

‘I took the decision to bring on Edinson. Had I not brought on someone might have asked if it’s classless not to bring on Cavani or Alejandro Garnacho. After two subs, you have to take a decision and this will not be to the liking of everybody and this is part of the game.’
