Gardeners’ World Monty Don inundated with support after poignant post
Fans quickly responded to the horticulturists’ sad post, with user Paul writing: “Dear Nigel, his character shone through on screen and we adored him for it… Bless you Nigel.”
Susie added how much the furry friend meant to them: “I like Gardeners World but I must admit one of the main reasons I watched was for Nigel.”
Other fans shared their own images of their four-legged pets as support.
The German-born presenter is active on social media for sharing his gardens and various animals, earning the star’s pets fame and popularity.
Last October he revealed that he had found a new puppy much to his fans’ delight.
Sticking with the N first name theme, he revealed Ned as the third dog to join the family on Instagram.
He shared: “I haven’t told Nellie or Patti yet. So it remains to be seen whether the three dogs will be best buds!
“Ned makes his world premiere tonight on BBC Two at 8pm on Gardeners’ World. I am told there might be a little gardening, too,” he added.
However, he didn’t forget to remember Nigel: “On a day when we are sharing a deep sense of sadness and loss, I went to choose the new bright innocent and irresistibly charming member of our family, replacing Nigel.”
Last month, he shared an update on Ned who appeared to be a double of Nigel as he had grown a lot since his first TV debut.
Fans continued to share their love for his furry family, with user Lise commenting: “He’s beautiful. My golden is an elder now so we spoil her quite a bit and enjoy every day we have with her.
“The relationship between Ned and Nelly, seems very reminiscent of Nelly and Nigel. All lovely doggos!” another user added.
Eastenders actress Jessie Wallace, 51, couldn’t stop by without gushing over the growing puppy sharing a heart and hearts-eyed emoji.
Whilst it hasn’t been confirmed whether Ned will be joining Monty, fans can expect to meet and see the famous gardener at this year’s annual BBC Gardeners’ World Live.
The theme for this year’s event is My Garden Escape, and is described on the BBC website as “a quiet oasis or refuge, a place of mindfulness, an area shaped around its mental health benefits and sensory aspects”.
Attendees can also expect to meet and watch interviews with Carol Klein, 77, Adam Frost, 53, Frances Tophill and Alan Titchmarsh, 74.
The event will take place at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham from Thursday, June 15 to Sunday, June 18.
