Game winner’s emotional message to friend

Melbourne superstar Harry Grant used his post-game spotlight to send a special message to close friend Nicho Hynes.

Grant had just won the season-opening game for the Storm, scooting from dummy half in extra time to catch the Eels napping and score a spectacular solo try.

And as he spoke to Nine’s Danika Mason in the aftermath, the 25-year-old champion’s thoughts were with his mate who has been doing it tough.

Hynes this week told reporters , “it’s probably been the toughest time in my life”, as he comes to grips with his mother, Julie, being in jail after being found guilty of heroin supply.

Grant and Hynes played side by side at the Storm until the latter left at the end of 2021 to take up a deal with Cronulla, with whom he won last year’s Dally M Medal.

“I just want to throw my support behind one of my good mates, Nicho Hynes,” Grant told Nine.
