Gabby Logan on ‘fiery’ relationship with son Reuben just before he leaves home

Gabby Logan has shared details of her “fiery” relationship with her and Kenny Logan’s son Reuben ahead of him leaving to begin his professional rugby career.

The Sports Personality of the Year presenter, 50, discussed all things mother and son, and discussed what it’s like to be a teenager in today’s society with Reuben, 18.
The Mid-Point with Gabby Logan podcast saw Reuben join his mother for the first time, as they addressed a recent spat regarding a takeaway.
The former gymnast called it a “typical Gabby and Reuben moment” when his mother refused to pay for a takeaway dinner as they had food in the fridge.

Whilst they joked about the situation, the Yorkshire-born celeb commented on their dynamic: “I would say we have quite a fiery relationship.”

She added: “But it also has periods of laughs and good communication.”

Reuben shared that he had “some fiery-ness from you (Gabby), maybe potentially, and competitiveness”.

However, he added: “I don’t think I have your discipline,” which he instead received from his father, Kenny Logan, 51.

The BBC host then commented that discipline was crucial for his new career in sport, and that they were “more alike than you (Reuben) think”.

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Reuben had signed his first professional contract with Northampton Saints.

He is one of six chosen by the Saints’ senior academy ahead of the 2023/2024 season.

Reuben is set to become one of only two forwards at the club, and previously represented England at an under-18s level.

Ahead of joining the team on a full-time basis from July 1, Saints commented on the young athlete: “He’s got some things to learn around his transition to the back row, but the skills he’s picked up playing previously in the centres and on the wing for his school and Academy sides will be great assets for him to have.”

The podcast also discussed how difficult it was for young men to find the right role models in the age of influencers.

Speaking about influencer Andrew Tate, Reuben shared his views on why he thought the former kickboxer had such power.

He said: “If he lived the same life as just an average human being, he would not be respected as much.

“It’s because, whether he’s done it legitimately or not, he has a lot of money, he lives in a nice house, so then people idolise him because of that.”

Reuben then credited his parents for not allowing him a phone until he was older, and only having access to certain apps at the ages of 12 going on 13.
