Another showed a brunette with a zipped-down dress revealing a bra and cleavage. And a mural on the dodgems shows a woman in hotpants with the words: “Start your engines.”

The fair owners said the images had been used before without complaint.

But things got heated when Murphy’s set up in Rishi Sunak’s constituency of Richmond, North Yorks.

Mum Claire Robson, 51, complained saying the “sexualised images” were “offensive and discriminatory”.

She added: “I feel very strongly that children are not exposed to these type of images. It’s great for Richmond that we have a visiting fair and good fun for families and young people.

“However I was shocked to see the sexualised images of women and surprised these meet council’s standards.”

County councillor Stuart Parsons said: “I contacted the town clerk who has had discussions with the fair.

“Murphy’s are talking to all the rides. Obviously it will take time and money for them to be dealt with properly.

“This is the first time that someone has raised this and we have tried to deal with it swiftly and efficiently.”

Fairground workers used binbags to cover the artwork last weekend, But other locals said they weren’t offended.

One woman said: “People need to get a grip. I do not see the issue with these images. I find it more degrading that people can’t look at them without turning it into a social debate.”

John Murphy, of Murphy’s Funfairs, said: “We are very sorry if the nightclub-themed artwork has offended anyone. We have taken measures to remove or cover certain pieces.”
