FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki Announces Next Title In Its Final Stages

Only a couple of months after Elden Ring’s release, FromSoftware already has a new game well underway. In an interview from 4Gamer, a Japanese-language publication, Elden Ring director and FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki mentions that his company is wrapping up an unannounced title.

In 2018, 4Gamer asked Miyazaki about the company’s three unpublished titles — one of which was Elden Ring. The other two works remain unannounced. When asked about one of the publications again, Miyazaki confirmed that it is in its final stages. FromSoftware is working on several new games, as mentioned in the interview. According to the interview, many of the publications are being handled by a number of different developers. “In fact, there are several titles directed by people other than me, and it’s time to increase the number of developers,” Miyazaki explains.

Given FromSoftware’s pedigree — Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Elden Ring — it’s tempting to assume that the new game would be another souls-type game. However, an entry into their mech-action shooter series, Armored Core, could very well be in the works given how fresh Elden Ring is on the market. On top of the new game announcements, FromSoftware is hiring. In a recent tweet by FromSoftware, they posted a job listing page that contained artwork for many of their previous titles, including Armored Core.

Taking in Miyazaki’s references to the game having been worked on as early as 2017 and some leaked material, it’s seeming increasingly likely that FromSoftware’s long-neglected mecha franchise will see a long-overdue return. But time will tell for certain, and probably sooner rather than later.

Whatever the case may be, another FromSoftware title so close to completion on the heels of Elden Ring is a tantalizing prospect for the developer’s dedicated fanbase. It might have an impossible hurdle to jump given the degree of acclaim that Elden Ring released to, but if the developer’s sterling roster is anything to go by, we should all be keeping our eyes peeled for this one.
