From surfing to cycling – the best female-led adventures

Get your surf board ready with Women and Waves offering day lessons, week-long courses and surf camps (Picture: Women and Waves)

From cycling in the Cotswolds to hoofing around the Himalayas we round up the best female-led adventures to mark Wednesday’s International Women’s Day.

The only way is SUP

Founded by passionate surfer Rachel Murphy, Women and Waves is an all-female surf society based in Cornwall. It offers day lessons, week-long courses and residential surf camps from Cornwall to Costa Rica. We particularly like the sound of the Water Women Weekend, a two-day surf camp in Newquay that offers a taster of surfing, wild swimming and stand-up paddle boarding around the coast, along with beachfront dinners and drinks with a bunch of like-minded women.

Water Women Weekend from £249.

Our favourite is a women-only tour of Jordan, which includes a cookery class with a trio of sisters in Beit Sitti, meeting a professional matchmaker in Amman and a female-led guided tour of the ancient city of Petra. The eight-day trip includes a starry night in a desert camp in Wadi Rum reserve with local Bedouin women, and some heavy salted pampering in a women-only resort on the Dead Sea.
