French Press Sangria is TikTok’s latest obsession – here’s how to whip it up

How to make French Press Sangria, TikTok's latest obsession Tik Tok/Ereka Vetrini

Sangria is the perfect summer drink; it’s fruity, refreshing, and strong – but not overly sweet.

And it seems a hybrid of this popular beverage is TikTok’s latest obsession.

In fact, the drink in question is a marriage of two summer staples – and, quite frankly, we can’t believe it’s only come about now.

People on TikTok are going wild for an Aperol Spritz–sangria fusion – but to top it all off, they are whipping it up in a French Press.

Home cook Ereka Vetrini is behind this genius creation and says in her video: ‘The press forces the fruit flavors to infuse into the drink quicker.’

Her summery beverage consists of four parts: chopping the fruit, mixing the liquids, chilling the cocktail and then pressing it.

Ereka says to start by adding the chopped fruit and orange juice to the French Press, then fill half with prosecco and half with Aperol. After, simply stir, cover and refrigerate for at least two hours.

Then to top it off, push down the press and pour out – serving with an orange as a garnish, as well as ice.

The whole idea is that the French Press helps release more juices from the fruit to give it extra flavour.

Plus, with it being a five-ingredient recipe – featuring peach, orange, cherries, Aperol and Prosecco – it requires minimal effort.

It’s also a lot faster to make than classic sangria which, typically, needs to be chilled in the fridge for at least six hours.

Want to try something else? Try this sparkling wine sangria recipe:

This recipe is from Pedro Paulo at Ham Yard Hotel.

Ingredients for one litre:

  • 6 cubes of pineapple
  • 1/2 kiwi, peeled and sliced into wheels
  • 1/4 grapefruit, sliced
  • 1/4 lime, sliced
  • 1/4 orange, sliced
  • 10 mint leaves
  • 1 stick of cinnamon
  • 25 ml passionfruit puree
  • 25 ml pineapple puree
  • 35 ml White Rum
  • 15 ml Cointreau
  • 15ml Martini Bianco
  • 50 ml apple juice
  • 50 ml grapefruit juice
  • 100 ml Fever Tree lemonade
  • 375 ml chilled sparkling wine – something on the dry side – Champagne, Cremant or Cava
  • 2 large scoops of cubed ice

Method:

1. Prepare your fruit and add to a large jug with all of the ingredients except the mint, lemonade, ice and sparkling wine. You can let this steep in the fridge for up to six hours – this only enhances the flavour.

2. When you are ready to serve, simply add your ice and mint leaves and top up with the lemonade and sparkling wine. Give it a good stir and pour into glasses. Garnish with half a passion fruit if you’d like to push the boat out.
