Freddie Flintoff covers face in public months after Top Gear crash

Freddie Flintoff, 45, has been photographed out and about with his wife of 28 years Rachael Wools Flintoff four months after his horrific car crash ordeal.

The former England cricketer was seriously hurt by the accident, which happened while he was filming a stunt for BBC show Top Gear, on December 13, 2022.

The presenter suffered serious facial injuries and broken ribs after he and a crew member were in a 130mph, open-top three-wheel Morgan Super 3 that flipped at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome, Surrey.

A BBC health and safety team is said to be investigating the accident.

In new pictures, the sportsman can be seen sitting in the passenger seat of a car with his wife Rachael at the wheel.

“It it was good to see him out and about in public, and apparently doing well after what he has been through.

“He did look as though he had lost a bit of weight, though.”

The photographs come after BBC chief content officer Charlotte Moore declared on Thursday that it would be “inappropriate” to continue with Top Gear in Freddie’s absence.

“My priority at the moment is supporting Freddie through his recovery so I think it would be really inappropriate for us to resume filming now,” she said. “I think when we get to the point where he feels ready . . . and we’ll get to thinking about getting him back.”

Last month, the BBC also issued a statement that said: “Under the circumstances, we feel it would be inappropriate to resume making series 34.

“We have sincerely apologised to Freddie and will continue to support him with his recovery.”
