Four Gujarat Titans players in race to win Orange and Purple Cap
Gujarat Titans (GT) made their magnificent IPL debut by winning the trophy in 2022, and in IPL 2023, the team has dominated the league since the beginning and is all set to play IPL finals against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The reason for such great success GT has achieved is as both the batting and bowling side of the team have played exceptionally well and it is reflected in the fact that Shubman Gill is the top contender to win Orange Cap, while Mohammad Shami, Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma and on top to win the Purple cap.
Shubman Gill
With 851 runs in 16 matches in IPL 2023 season, Shubman Gill has displayed class of another level in the tournament. The number of runs this season is almost double from his previous season when he made 483 runs. His strike rate also increased from 132.3 in 2022 to 156.4 in IPL 2023. Previously he didn’t have a single IPL 100 to his name, but this season Shubman Gill struck 3 IPL centuries.
Mohammad Shami
The backbone of GT’s bowling strength, Mohammad Shami has striked 28 times in this season of IPL 2023. With 4/11 as his best, Shami has bowled with an economy of 7.95 runs in the current season. The performance is a big boost from the previous season where he took 20 wickets and 3/25 was his best.
Rashid Khan
Following closely in the Purple Cap race is dangerous spinner Rashid Khan who has taken 27 wickets in IPL 2023. Rashid Khan competed closely with his counterpart and has a personal best of 4/30. Like Mohammad Shami, Rashid Khan has also displayed big improvement from the previous season where he took 19 wickets and had a personal best of 4/24.
Mohit Sharma
From taking 1 wicket in his last season of IPL 2020 to becoming one of the top wicket-takers in IPL 2023, the journey of GT’s Mohit Sharma has been nothing short of magic. Playing after a gap of 2 years, Mohit Sharma provided some important breakthroughs to his team and he took 24 wickets in IPL 2023 season.
