Four coronavirus outbreaks recently reported at Boulder County assisted-living facilities

Four coronavirus outbreaks were recently reported at assisted-living facilities in Boulder County.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment releases its COVID-19 outbreak data every Wednesday.

A COVID-19 outbreak was reported at Flatirons Health & Rehab in Louisville on Dec. 28, according to CDPHE data. The outbreak involved two resident cases and four staff member cases.

Stacie DeGoey, director of nursing at Flatirons Health & Rehab, said the facility is currently in outbreak status. She confirmed the two resident cases and four staff member cases. She said the facility also has two more probable staff cases.

All patients and staff members were fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus and one patient and at least two staff members also had received booster shots, DeGoey said.

Donna Ruske, chief administrative officer with the facility, said the first case reported was an employee case that was determined Dec. 24.

“We promptly started testing all staff and residents,” she said. “The resident also tested positive Friday.”

Ruske said the resident had mild symptoms and the staff member’s symptoms were worse. The resident was vaccinated against the virus and had received a booster, and the staff member was vaccinated but had not received her booster shot yet.

“We encourage vaccinations and boosters,” she said. “We have ongoing clinics once a month to catch anyone up with boosters who need it.”

Stacey Love, with Katherine & Charles Hover Green Houses, said both staff members are doing fine and are back at work.

The facility is still in outbreak status and is testing everyone twice a week until the status is cleared, she said.

Love added that a resident recently went to the hospital for a non-COVID-19 related matter. Before he left Katherine & Charles, he tested negative for COVID-19 but upon arriving at the hospital he tested positive. He is still at the hospital.

“We are continuing to do everything we can to follow the guidance that’s given to us,” she said.
