Fortnite down – How long are servers offline for update 24.40?

Fortnite developer Epic Games is taking the game offline for update 24.40. The delayed update will introduce Ranked Play to Battle Royale and Zero Build. Coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox consoles, Nintendo Switch, Android and PC, update 24.40 will be available to download on the morning of May 17. It will be accompanied by a period of server downtime, which means you won’t be able to play Fortnite for at least a couple of hours. If you want to know when you can log back into Fortnite, check out the 24.40 server downtime schedule below.

The news was announced by Epic Games on Twitter, alongside details on when servers will be taken offline for maintenance.

“The Ranked journey is about to begin! Downtime for v24.40 begins at 3 AM ET and matchmaking will be disabled shortly beforehand.”

For UK fans, this means that Fortnite will be taken offline in full at 8am BST, while matchmaking will be disabled at 7.30am.

Epic hasn’t revealed exactly when downtime will come to an end, but maintenance typically lasts for around a couple of hours.

This means Fortnite should be back online by 10am BST UK time at the latest.

The newly introduced Ranked Play gives players the opportunity to climb from Bronze to Unreal level by winning games, match placement and eliminating opponents.

It all begins with Season Zero on May 17, which serves as a beta of sorts. Ranked Play Season Zero lasts until the end of Battle Royale Chapter 4, Season 3 – at which point it will be replaced by the official launch.

Epic explains more: “Your starting Battle Royale rank and Zero Build rank in Season Zero will be based on your past match performance, as well as your performance in your first Ranked Battle Royale and Ranked Zero Build match.

“For Battle Royale and Zero Build, you’ll only need to play one Ranked match to have your rank revealed.”

In addition to Ranked Play, Epic will also add Spider-Verse skins to the item shop.
