MUMBAI: Mumbai University is likely to get a vice-chancellor by the end of this month. University’s very own candidate, former pro-vice-chancellor, RD Kulkarni, is said to be in the running for the top post, followed by Savitribai Phule Pune University‘s SM Gosavi. Sources claimed that two women, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre’s Archana Sharma and Jyoti Jadhav from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, are also among the five shortlisted names and finally, a candidate from Banaras Hindu University, Tej Pratap Singh, is also shortlisted by the VC selection-cum-search committee. The Governor and chancellor of state universities, Ramesh Bais, will appoint the vice-chancellor after interviewing them on May 26.
The committee, headed by former UGC Chairman DP Singh, selected the five candidates after interviewing 20 shortlisted ones at NITIE on Friday. The five names were given to the Governor on the same evening. Sources claimed that the interviews are said to be scheduled on May 26. Five candidates for Pune University will also be interviewed by the Governor in the coming week. Gosavi is believed to have been shortlisted even for the Pune vice-chancellor’s post. Their interviews are scheduled to be on May 27.
Mumbai University’s vice-chancellor’s post has been vacant since September last year after former VC Suhas Pednekar’s tenure ended.
