Former BSP chief Tetangco elected chair of SM Investments
MANILA -Former Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor Amando M. Tetangco Jr, 70, was elected chair of the Sy family’s banking, property and retail giant SM Investments Corp.
Tetangco replaces Jose T. Sio, the former longtime chief financial officer of the P1.1-trillion conglomerate before he was elected chair six years ago. Sio, who is in his mid 80s, retired as chair and director and was designated as chair emeritus during a special board meeting on Friday.
Tetangco, who is also vice chair of SM Prime Holdings, was elected independent director of SM Investments during the same meeting.
Tetangco was a career BSP official for over four decades, serving as governor of the BSP and chair of the Monetary Board for two consecutive terms from 2005 to 2017.
He is also an independent director of Belle Corp., Converge ICT Solutions Inc. and Pilipinas Shell.
Tetangco was named the Management Association of the Philippines’ MAP Management of the year in 2015. He is also a recipient of various awards, including the Order of Lakandula with the rank of Bayani conferred by the President of the Philippines in 2009 and the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star given by the Emperor of Japan in 2019.
