Forget the ‘glazed doughnut’ look, now ‘laminated’ skin is the next big trend

Glowy skin will never not be on trend.

If you haven’t heard of the ‘glazed doughnut’ skin trend, that’s subsequently dominated nail and lip trends, where have you been?

Laminated skin is the new trend makeup artists are using – and it was seen all over London Fashion Week.

This years, lots of artists, such as Terry Barber for MAC Cosmetics, opted for bare shiny skin with the focus on eyes and lips.

When making a statement elsewhere on the face, the trend is to make the skin as simple and bare canvas-like as possible.

Yesterday, speaking exclusively to press, famed makeup artist Violette, whose worked with Guerlain and has her own brand Violette FR, said she’d ‘never’ make foundation and will always focus on colour products that inspire fun, rather than using makeup to cover up.

She also said we could all get better at learning to love what’s underneath more, and choose to not cover our faces up more regularly.

It’s something makeup wearers can take heed of, and the laminated skin trend is the perfect way to do it.

Simply skipping foundation – or using only a tint if you want some level of cover -can maximise glow on the skin.

The idea is for the appearance post-skincare routine: plump, hydrated and shiny.

Kevin Lee, a skincare influencer, recently posted on his Instagram story: ‘My Uber driver said “Oh I’m sorry” and then blasted the AC. I said “I’m sorry?”. He said “I saw your face, it’s all sweaty haha.

‘Sir it’s the Saie Sunvisor!!! It’s dewwyyyy not sweaty!!!’

Skin that is so reflective it looks sweaty is the goal, and letting natural skin and imperfections show through is having a moment.

Terry said the era of thick foundation is over, and it’s all about tints going forward.
