‘Forever grateful’ Mark Charnock thanks Emmerdale pal Gemma Atkinson for ‘rescuing him’

Mark Charnock, who has played Marlon Dingle on Emmerdale since 1996, paid homage to fellow Emmerdale star Gemma Atkison on Instagram today. In a post for her birthday, he described how he would “always be grateful” to the actress.

The actor, 53, shared a witty birthday message to Gemma, 37, in a post to his 46,300 Instagram followers.

Next to an image of the two of them starring in Emmerdale, he wrote: “Happy birthday to Her Excellency @glouiseatkinson to whom I shall always be grateful for rescuing me from the forest”.

The “rescue” referred to a scene in the ITV soap in which Gemma’s character Carly Hope carried Marlon out of the woods.

Only Gemma’s back can be seen in the snap, while Mark is pictured looking back in terror in a rather comedic fashion.

Gemma has appeared in many popular British soaps over the years, playing Lisa Hunter in Hollyoaks and Tamzin Bayle in Casualty.

The star also competed in reality TV series including I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, Celebrity MasterChef, and Soapstar Superstar.

Gemma met her fiance, professional dancer Gorka Márquez, through Strictly Come Dancing, which she competed in back in 2017.

The glamour model was partnered with professional dancer Aljaž Škorjanec for the show’s 15th season and went on to reach the final, losing out to Joe McFadden.

Gemma announced that she was expecting her first child with Gorka via Instagram on February 1 2019.

In July of that same year, the actress gave birth to her daughter Mia.

Back in February, Gemma and Gorka announced their engagement after the dancer got down on one knee for Valentine’s Day.

This year Gorka was paired with Coronation Street’s Katie McGlynn for the 19th season of Strictly Come Dancing, but the couple were quickly voted out second after Eastenders star Nina Wadia and her partner Neil Jones.
