Footy icon Tayla Harris badly beaten in title fight
Tayla Harris’ return to the boxing ring ended in tears and a closed eye as she was soundly beaten by a tough opponent.
The multi-sport star, who is also a force in the AFLW and has her own statue of an iconic kick, lost by decision to Millicent Agboegbulen in Sydney on Wednesday night.
It was the first all-female boxing card in Australian history, broadcast by Fox Sports and promoted by No Limit.

Harris was undoubtedly the star power of the event, given her profile in Australian sport.
But she ended up leaving the arena with a badly swollen left cheek and a battered face after Agboegbulen put on a masterclass to retain her Australian super welterweight title.
Harris had won the first eight fights of her career, but her record now reads 8-1-0 after losing a majority score 76-76, 80-73, 74-70.
Harris’ corner tried to claim the massive welt under her left eye was the result of a headbutt, as the pair clashed heads several times throughout the bout.
But Agboegbulen dominated with a fierce right jab, and the referee put the Harris injuries down to that rather than a stray forehead.
The one drawn scorecard raised some eyebrows given how dominant Agboegbulen looked during the fight.
Before the event, Harris spoke to Nine’s Honey about what it meant to headline the first all-female card.
“I’m just really honoured to be involved in the first place, but then to headline is next level,” she said.
Harris now turns her attention to the AFLW season where she will attempt to help Melbourne Demons win consecutive premierships.
