Football Manager 2023 Head Does Not Agree With Sony Boss Calling Xbox Game Pass ‘Value Destructive’
The ongoing Xbox FTC trial has provided the players with a whole bunch of spicy details related to Sony, Xbox, Activision, Nintendo and other big players of the industry. One of the key points that stuck by with many players was Sony calling Xbox Game Pass ‘value destructive’ and also claiming that this opinion is unanimous in the industry. However, Sports Interactive, the team behind Football Manager 2023 does not agree with this claim.
Sports Interactive Head, Miles Jacobson does not agree with what Sony Boss Jim Ryan had to say about Xbox Game Pass at the FTC trial according to a report by Eurogamer. Jacobson has stated that not all studios have the same opinion as each studio has “different data”. This is because the situation will differ according to the game and for them it has been “nothing but positive” on all the 3 platforms.
Jacobson added that they run a “tight ship” and he likes his “studio to be profitable”. Hence, they will not go for a deal that turns out to be detrimental to the business. Subscriptions like Game Pass and Apple Arcade has grown their player base and brought on new players to game entirely, “there’s no way we would have reached five million players on FM23 without the audiences on those platforms”, he added.
Jacobson had also stated “With the success of our launches on Game Pass for Xbox and PC, this year saw us bring back Football Manager Touch for Apple Arcade and launch FM23 Console on PlayStation 5, both of which have exceeded our expectations” in their latest development blog. This would lead many to believe that Game Pass is indeed profitable for the right games.
