FM University celebrates 24th Foundation Day – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: The Fakir Mohan University Balasore on Monday celebrated its 24th Foundation Day. Balasore MP and former Union minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi announced that the playground of the university will be developed by using funds of the members of parliament local area development (MP LAD).

Attending the ceremony as chief guest, Odisha governor and chancellor of the university Ganeshi Lal urged everyone to work for ending the existing inequalities and discrimination prevalent in the society and contribute towards building a ‘Swarnim Bharat’. “We must pursue truth with sincerity, then only we can change the world and unite the people across the world,” he added.

Local MP Sarangi said Rs 5 lakh will be provided from MP LAD fund for the development of the playground of the university. If needed, another Rs 5 lakh will be sanctioned for the playground work. “We should not forget the sacrifice and efforts made by Rabindra Mohan Das and Brajanath Ratha in setting up this university,” he added.

On this occasion, noted author Perumal Murugan was conferred with the Fakir Mohan National Literary Award-2022 constituting of a cash award of one lakh one rupees along with a citation. Addressing the gathering as chief speaker, Murugan stressed upon translating texts across Tamil and Odia language for better literary transactions between two states.

University vice-chancellor Santosh Kumar Tripathy spoke about the ongoing works of the institution including Lab to Land project, outreach and research activities. New centres will come up in the university to strengthen teaching and research works, he added

“Next year we will celebrate the 25th Foundation Day or Silver Jubilee celebration of our university. For this, we have started the pre-Silver Jubilee celebration from July 9. We will conduct several events throughout the year to mark the 25th year of the university,” he added.

University conferred ‘Vyasa Gauraba Sammana-2022’ to Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, director general of meteorology, India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Gajendra Prasad Sahu, an artist. Dilip Behera, a writer, was awarded with ‘Fakir Mohan University Juba Galpika Puraskara-2022’. Students and teachers were also awarded for their performances.

Earlier in the day, a mini marathon from the birth place of Fakir Mohan University (Shanti Kanan) to the university’s new campus at Nuapadhi at 6am was organised to mark the Foundation Day.
