Flight warning as BA & easyJet cancel more flights – causing misery for thousands
BOTH easyJet and British Airways have cancelled more flights, as Covid staff shortages continue to affect airlines.
Thousands of passengers have been affected by the cancellations.
On Sunday, easyJet were forced to cancel a number of flights to and from Belfast and Faro, with at least 26 affected to and from London Gatwick.
One woman said her daughter had been left in tears while others said they were stranded overnight at the airport.
Another 30 flights were cancelled yesterday, leading to more Brits facing flight problems this morning.
One woman complained on social media: “My flight to Berlin just got cancelled by easyJet! Currently can’t get another flight for less than £600 unless someone feels generous.”
Another person said: “Flight cancelled at 9.30pm when in the departure lounge. Abandoned by staff – no flights for 48 hours. Surely you can do better than that.”
A third added: “For two days running my @easyJet flight from Manchester to Berlin has been cancelled, never again.”
An easyJet spokesperson said that they had to make the cancellations last night due to a number of factors including “reduced flow rates at Gatwick” as well as aircraft technical issues and crew needing to follow a minimum resting time.
And British Airways passengers have been hit by cancellations today too.
More than 100 flights have been cancelled to and from London Heathrow by the flag carrier.
This includes domestic routes as well as international flights including European hotspots Paris, Venice and Malaga.
However, the majority of the flights were cancelled in advance, as part of the airline’s schedule reduction.
British Airways confirmed that they were reducing flights to avoid last minute cancellations over the summer.
The reduction affected more than 16,000 flights, while long haul routes to Miami, Hong Kong and Tokyo have been cancelled throughout the summer.
