Flight attendant says check behind the curtains in a hotel room
Safety is absolutely imperative for holidaymakers and flight attendants know better than anyone the top tips and tricks for keeping safe in a hotel.
Flight attendant turned TikTok creator @danidboyy1 took to the sharing platform to share exactly what she does when she first arrives in her hotel room.
The video has amassed a whopping 119,400 likes and 7,572 saves so far. Nine hundred and sixteen cautious travellers also shared the video with other hotel stayers.
The first thing @danidboyy1 does when she checks into her room is she searches the room for any unwanted guests. She referenced checking behind the curtains but this could mean checking inside wardrobes too.
Next, she adds a “do not disturb” sign to her door before locking and deadbolting it. She added that travellers should “ALWAYS deadbolt the door”.
The flight attendant also checks for hidden cameras or two-way mirrors using the “fingernail technique”.
Safety awareness TikTok creator @mariannenafsu explained that people can tell if a mirror is two-sided by placing their fingernail on the mirror.
She said: “You literally have to use your nail, not your finger. There should be a gap between your nail and the reflection, that’s how you know it’s a one-sided mirror.”
After the mirror test, she locks her valuables away in the hotel safe. She referenced a passport and documents but this could also include expensive items such as jewellery.
Although hotel rooms are cleaned prior to new guests, she likes to give the room a once over with multi-surface cleaning wipes on commonly used items and surfaces.
Travel enthusiast @jessicalouise6 commented and provided her own top travel tip – but for when you’re ready to check out.
She said: “I always put one heel in the safe so I can’t leave and forget something!”
The TikTok creator replied: “YES! I always leave something close to the safe or something I need inside to remind me to collect my items too.”
