Flight attendant says always ‘throw bottle under bed’ after checking into hotel
KLM flight attendant Esther shared on the social media platform TikTok a life-changing hack to stay safe in a hotel room.
The crew member explained that as soon as she checks into a hotel, she follows a clever method to spot if someone is hiding under the bed.
The flight attendant revealed that the best way to “check that no one is under the bed without looking” is by throwing a bottle of water.
If hotel guests “throw a bottle under the bed” and it “doesn’t come out on the other side,” means there is someone hiding there.
Travellers can do this with a bottle of water but the hack also works with other items which can be found in the room including complimentary toiletries in the bathroom, or a can of Coke from the minibar.

Flight attendant Nassim exclusively talked to Express.co.uk and shared his top tip to stay safe in the hotel room at night.
The crew member explained that she always places her suitcase by the door, and it’s a clever way to alert holidaymakers if someone is trying to enter their room.
Travellers can place their luggage by the door at night but this trick also works with almost any object in the room.
The crew member also inspects the whole room every time she goes back to the hotel to make sure no one is hiding.
Nassim revealed that another crew member got attacked in her hotel room as someone was hiding in the wardrobe and she “did not check properly”.
She explained: “They got attacked so every time I got to a hotel room I would use my luggage case to keep the hotel door open. I then go inside and check everywhere.
“I would check the bathroom, under the bed, inside the wardrobes, under the table and behind the curtains to make sure that no one was in there. I would never ever enter a room without doing that,” she added.
American flight attendant Kat Kamali agreed and said that hotel guests should always check “if there’s anyone in your room” as soon as they arrive.
She urged hotel guests to never say their “room number out loud” and to make sure they check “behind the curtains and under the bed” after checking in.
