Flight attendant explains why Meghan Markle didn’t pay the bill on flight – but PPO did

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry went on a trip to Tromso, in Norway, back in 2017, when the Duke of Sussex proposed to Meghan.

“When we went through with the service trolley, they stopped me and asked me for a drink and snack.”

She continued: “Harry had a breakfast tea and shortbread and Meghan had tea as well, but she chose a lemon muffin.

“They were very nice and friendly, but at the time to take the payment, I didn’t know what to do, as they didn’t ask for the bill and it seemed like they assumed that was for free.

“I was too embarrassed to ask so I just left,” the flight attendant explained.

DON’T MISS

“I panicked so I just kept going and decided not to ask for the payment, although they had requested to be treated like regular passengers before the flight.”

The flight from London to Tromso, in the Arctic Circle, was over three hours long, but the couple never ordered anything else.

The flight attendant admitted she was a bit worried as she didn’t know if she had done the right thing.

“By the end of the flight, though, their bodyguard, who was travelling with them, came to me and asked for the bill.

“It is done for security reasons, to keep things as private as possible,” he said.

“[Police officers paying for royal expenses] would be the usual practice if a protection officer was in a situation where something had to be paid, be it rail tickets or food, he would pay for it and the money would be paid back to the officer, if he had used cash, or the police force if he used a police-issue credit card.

“It is very rare for members of the Royal Family to carry cash or credit cards so protection officers paying for things is quite a normal practice.

“When I worked with the late Princess Diana I did this on numerous occasions for things like meals at restaurants to hotel bookings.”
