Gabriel Jesus has offered another positive injury update as the Brazil forward works his way back to fitness following knee surgery.

The 25-year-old, who has been an instant hit in north London since his summer move from Manchester City, underwent an operation in early December to address a knee injury suffered while playing for Brazil at the World Cup.

On Wednesday morning, Jesus shared an image of himself working out an exercise bike, not wearing the knee brace he was pictured in last week as part of his rehabilitation.

He also captioned the image with the message ‘Five weeks’. Jesus suffered his injury during Brazil’s final group stage match against Cameroon on 2 December, with Arsenal confirming he had successfully undergone surgery on 6 December.

It is now just under five weeks since he went under the knife with his ‘five weeks’ comment possibly marking that particular milestone after extensive work in the gym.

Arsenal fans will hope however it could mean five weeks until a possible return to full training.

Mikel Arteta was reluctant to put a timescale on Jesus’ return when addressing the setback in December but reports suggested the striker would be facing up to three months out, sidelining him until March.

Eddie Nketiah has been tasked with leading the line for the Gunners in his absence, scoring twice in Monday’s FA Cup third round victory over Oxford United.

The club are still hoping to bring in attacking reinforcements during the January transfer window with Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhailo Mudryk the club’s top target.

Arsenal have already seen two bids rejected for the 22-year-old with the Ukrainian club valuing their prized asset at £85million.

But with the player eager to join Arteta’s side, the club are said to be confident of getting a deal across the line before the month is out.

Arsenal were also interested in signing Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid to bolster their options.

But with Atletico Madrid demanding a loan fee of £9million to make the deal happen, both Arsenal and Manchester United reportedly ended their interest with Chelsea confirming his arrival at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
