Five travel hacks that will save you ‘tons’ of money when booking your vacation

There are scores of factors that influence flight price fluctuations – but one experienced globe-trotter claims there are several cut down on those unwanted extra costs.

In a clip that’s amassed more than 1.3 million views, travel influencer @guletravels, shared her six top tips for avoiding price hikes when booking online.

The influencer, who is best known for divulging travel tips in her popular travel hacks series, claims her methods will ensure you will always get the cheapest flight tickets on offer.

When to book your tickets

Aside from booking far in advance, Gule recommends researching flights on certain days of the week, as fares “are cheaper on Tuesdays (midnight) [and] Wednesdays […].”

Several travel websites have confirmed this, explaining that tickets tend to be cheaper mid-week due to airlines announcing deals on Monday evenings.

Other airlines will subsequently try to compete with these deals by lowering their fares, which is why Tuesday afternoon tends the best time to secure reduced airfare.

When to avoid booking tickets

Conversely, the travel expert advises against booking flights on the weekend, when airfares are at their highest due to hikes in demand.

The higher demand on the weekends is commonsensical given that more people can travel during that time, but tickets bought on Fridays tend to be priciest.

Use an incognito browser

Another way the travel influencer secures cheaper flights is by setting her browser to “incognito mode and clear cache and cookies,” as “airlines charge high with search history.”

The globe-trotter adds: “USE VPN from a cheaper country. It will save tones of $$$. Try India.”

Hiding your location prevents websites from basing their prices on your whereabouts, giving travelers access to the cheaper prices on offer.

In other words, a VPN can change your IP address to another location where the demand for flights may be lower.

Using a metasearch engine

Metasearch engines are exceptionally popular because they offer the convenience of gathering information from a variety of airlines.

Gule adds: “Use Skyscanner or Kayah and choose ‘anywhere’ on destination to get flights under $100.”

Viewers were quick to thank the influencer for her tips in the comments, where one wrote: “Yes definitely agree I booked a flight on Tuesday, and was cheaper.”

“Wish I saw this before I booked my flights 10 minutes ago,” another joked.
