First Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Patch 1.1.1 Released and Here’s What it Does

Nintendo has rolled out the first The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom patch 1.1.1 for the Nintendo Switch, and we’ve got you covered with the release notes.

This new update is the first post-launch patch for the game after Nintendo rolled out a pre-launch update on May 11. Let’s start off by saying that, going by the shared patch notes, this isn’t a major patch, but it does contain some fixes that some players will be happy with.

In addition to addressing several issues that should improve the overall gameplay experience, this patch also contains a fix for an annoying progression issue that prevented some players from completing “The Closed Door” main quest. According to the release notes, those who’ve already experienced this issue will now be able to complete the quest by downloading this new update.

Unfortunately, we don’t have additional details about the fixes for “several other issues” that Nintendo has mentioned in the patch notes. Of course, we’ll update you when we learn about some of the under-the-hood changes implemented with this update. Check out the full patch notes for this new Tears of the Kingdom patch here.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available globally now for the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo released the highly-anticipated sequel to 2017’s BOTW last week, and as reported some days ago, global sales of the game already surpassed 10 million copies (in merely three days). As also reported, Tears of the Kingdom is already the fastest-selling Zelda entry in the franchise’s history, and the fastest-selling Switch game to date. Not only that, but the sequel has also become the fastest-selling Nintendo game ever in the US.

We reviewed Tears of the Kingdom upon release, praising its story, world, new abilities, dungeons, and bosses as well as the amount of content.

“That said, I don’t want to overemphasize the feeling of familiarity, as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom also charts its own path in a myriad of ways, both big and small”, Nathan Birch wrote in his review. “The most immediately-noticeable change are Link’s abilities, which have been completely revamped. The most game-changing of these is Ultrahand, which allows you to pick up objects, manipulate them in 3D space, and paste them together to create various simple structures. Once you add the new Zonai Devices to the mix, which range from balloons to fans, to full-on steering systems, a whole new world of wacky contraptions is at your fingertips. The Ultrahand building controls take some getting used to, but they become second nature soon enough, and the amount of versatility Nintendo offers without breaking your immersion or sending you to another menu screen is impressive.”
