First pictures at scene where 4 people stabbed to death

Police have put up metal barriers around four forensic tents in the middle of Delaford Road

Pictures show the residential street in Bermondsey where three women and a man were stabbed to death. Neighbours were woken up police sirens and a helicopter circling before officers ‘armed with guns jumped out of seven or eight police cars’.

The Met Police were called at 1.40am today (Monday, April 25) to a disturbance at a house in Delaford Road and on arrival officers forced entry to the house. They found four people with stab injuries. Despite the efforts of emergency services, all four – three women and a man – died at the scene.

Officers are in the process of contacting the next of kin. A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to a South London police station where he remains in custody. Police say that it is believed all five people were known to each other.

Pictures show the scene on Delaford Road where police have constructed barriers around the house, outside of which four forensic tents are located. Police officers and forensic teams can be seen at work behind the barrier. A handful of cars are behind the cordon.

Bermondsey resident Anne Birkett, 60, whose back bedroom looks onto the property where four people were found with fatal stab wounds said she was woken by police sirens and a circling helicopter just before 2am. She said the street was filled with flashing lights, but she and her husband did not go outside their house or see anything further.

Ms Birkett told the PA news agency: “It’s devastating, you hear all of this but you never assume it’s going to be right on your own doorstep. I’m a foster carer and I’ve got children in my care. and now I’ve got to protect them now because of what’s happened”. She said there are several primary schools in the residential area near the scene.

A resident of the adjacent road, Bramcote Grove, who did not want to be named, said he was woken up by police sirens and a helicopter and was kept up until 6am by the commotion. “When I saw four ambulances – not one, not two, but four – I knew it was serious,” he told the PA news agency.
