First LNG cargo arrives in PH via Singapore-based firm

MANILA  -Singapore-based AG&P International Pte. Ltd. has become the first entity to bring liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the Philippines following the arrival of its floating storage vessel in Batangas.

In a statement on Thursday, the LNG terminal and downstream infrastructure company announced the arrival and berthing of its long-term chartered ISH Floating Storage Unit (FSU) at its import terminal on Batangas Bay.

LNG coming from this vessel will be used to initially power the 1,200-megawatt gas-fired power plant of listed conglomerate San Miguel Corp., which serves the energy requirements of Luzon, the country’s largest island and most populous region.

The FSU was leased from ADNOC Logistics & Services (ADNOC L&S), the maritime logistics arm of state oil firm Abu Dhabi National Oil Co.

AG&P subsidiary GAS Entec took care of converting the Japan-built Moss-type LNG Carrier ISH to the 137,500 cubic-meter FSU in five months.

ADNOC L&S will handle the supply, operations and maintenance of the FSU as part of its 15-year chartered agreement with AG&P.

“With the docking of the ISH … AG&P is proudly set to open the first LNG terminal in the Philippines called PHLNG, one with both floating and, shortly, almost equal onshore tank storage, providing near 100-percent availability,” AG&P chair and CEO Joseph Sigelman said.

AG&P earlier said the FSU was a central component of its P14.6-billion LNG import terminal in the province. It is part of a combined offshore-onshore import hub with an initial capacity of 5 million tons per annum. INQ
