First-ever EV Rolls-Royce weighs 3 tonnes and has illuminated grille for £275k

ROLLS-ROYCE has revealed its first electric production model since the company was founded in 1906.

The Rolls-Royce Spectre is an electric coupe with a 320-mile range that will launch next year.

Like most other manufacturers, Rolls-Royce is working towards a completely electric future as it phases out its huge V12 petrol engine.

There’s no word on the size of the Spectre’s battery, but the luxury firm has revealed the battery pack weighs 700kg alone.

That means the Spectre weighs in at nearly three tonnes in its entirety – making it the heaviest Rolls ever.

To counter that weight, the Spectre is fitted with an electric motor on each axle making a combined 577hp.

With that power, you’ll fly to 60mph in less than five seconds, which is more than fast enough for such a large barge.

Rolls-Royce has carried out extensive testing around the globe and reckons that despite its weight you’ll still enjoy the firm’s world-famous ‘magic carpet’ ride comfort.

But if the mood takes you, knowing the Spectre’s body is 30% stiffer than any Rolls before and that it’s fitted with trick suspension means it shouldn’t leave you disappointed in the corners either.

The Spectre has two doors and inside there are seats for four people and, naturally, a cabin of the finest quality.

These images show white, red and yellow seats, but this being Rolls-Royce you can dream up anything you’d like as long as you’re willing to pay.

The Spectre is likely to start at around £275,000, but it’s not uncommon for buyers to spec Rolls’ other coupe, the Wraith, to more than £500k.

Meanwhile, its flagship Phantom limousine can often be taken in excess of £1million in the pursuit of ultimate exclusivity.

Such exclusivity includes optional ‘Starlight’ door panels that have 5876 miniature LED lights and an interactive dashboard panel in front of the passenger seat which displays the car’s name surrounded by a cluster of 5500 more.

If that wasn’t enough lights, you can also have the headlining in any star constellation you’d like, while Spectre’s grille (the largest ever fitted to a Roller) is illuminated too.
