Black Friday and Cyber Monday are dates shoppers will surely be adding to their calendars.

It’s the perfect time to splash out on a new TV, pick up those headphones you’ve always wanted or even splurge on some furniture.

Some may prefer to simply browse what’s on offer on these annual discount days – but, either way, they’re often one of the busiest times of the year for buying things.

This year, Black Friday and Cyber Monday in the UK may be impacted by the Royal Mail strikes – which are set to take place on varying dates throughout October and November.

But on what dates do these days fall in 2022?

When is Black Friday 2022?

Back Friday takes place on Friday, November 25, 2022.

The popular shopping spree commences on the day after Thanksgiving in the US, which is always the fourth Thursday of November.

Indeed, Black Friday does originate from the US.

According to History.com, the term ‘Black Friday’ dates back as far as 1869, and was used in reference to a financial crash of the US gold market.

Another theory about Black Friday’s origins says the term was used by police officers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the 1960s to describe the hectic Friday after Thanksgiving.

Apparently, people would swarm the town to start on Christmas shopping, in the run-up to a big Saturday football game.

When is Cyber Monday 2022?

Cyber Monday takes place on Monday, November 28, 2022.

It’s easy to remember when the e-commerce chaos takes place, as it is always the Monday after Black Friday.

Alas, this day was just created by retailers as a way to drum up interest in online shopping. Reportedly, the term was first used back in 2005 in a press release sent by the National Retail Federation.

It apparently sparked a boost in sales. And the rest, as they say, is history…
