Film-star Batmobile goes up for sale for £1.2million – but there’s a catch

BATMAN FANS were shocked to discover the Batmobile is up for sale with a working flamethrower for £1.2million.

However, there’s a catch that might surprise people interested in buying the bat car.

The Batmobile from Tim Burton’s films Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992) is being sold by Classic Auto Mall for £1.2million.

The car was designed by the illustrator Julian Caldown and built by John Evan’s special effects team in England.

American actor Michael Keaton appears driving the car as he goes up against supervillains to save Gotham City.

But, if you buy the car, don’t expect to drive it on the motorway, because it can only go 30mph.

Also, the seller points out that the batteries of the car haven’t been replaced since 1993.

Before being bought by the current owner, the car was at New Jersey’s Six Flags amusement park where it was featured alongside the Batman Returns ride.

The Batmobile was inspired by the McLaren F1, with two regular seats inside plus a hidden third.

Classic Auto mall describes the interior: “Under that enclosed cockpit shell is a virtual fantasy land (literally) of buttons, levers, lights, control panels and an overabundance of nonfunctional bells and whistles.”

The roof has a large scoop and there are multiple air intakes on the car’s sides along with 15-inch wheels.

But probably the coolest feature is that the car has a working flamethrower at the rear.
