Tyson Venegas is definitely not going down anytime soon after his advance to the Top 12 of the “American Idol” following his powerful rendition of the Elton John hit song “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”

The Filipino-Canadian teen’s current standing in the competition was announced on the show’s official Twitter account on Tuesday, April 25.

Aside from Venegas, also included in the lucky 12 spots are We Ani, Warren Peay, Haven Madison, Colin Stough, Marybeth Byrd, Oliver Steele, Iam Tongi, Zachariah Smith, Megan Danielle, Lucy Love, and Nutsa Buzaladze.

The singer also expressed his gratitude to the show and his fans as he gushed about his recent “Idol” milestone on his personal Instagram account.

“Thank you everyone for voting for me! Thank you @americanidol for this moment,” he wrote.

Prior to announcing the Top 12, the 17-year-old singer earned a standing ovation from judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan after his heartfelt performance of the hit Elton John song.

Venegas’ mother, Iris Samson, was also spotted watching her son in the audience with tears in her eyes.

The teen was recently announced as part of “Idol’s” Top 20 after performing an original song called “180,” which earned rave reviews from the show’s judges.

Venegas first caught the attention of fans after he earned the first platinum ticket of the show’s 21st season in February 2023. The prized ticket was introduced only last year and is said to be of higher degree than the golden ticket, as contestants can “coast through one whole week of Hollywood week.”

The singer, who previously joined “The Voice Teens” in 2020, also performed the tracks “New York State of Mind,” “Don’t Stop Me Now,” “It Will Rain,” and original song “180” during the show’s run, as of this writing. EDV
