Hodges’ lawyer told the bench at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court that his client was travelling home in a Ferrari after enjoying Sunday lunch at a restaurant with his partner when he was stopped at 4pm on August 21 last year.

The lawyer said that Hodges had recently undergone surgery and needed to use a toilet.

He claimed the defendant, from Barrow Hill, Sellindge, waited until leaving the 50mph zone before putting his foot down.

The lawyer told the court that his client had relinquished the Ferrari because he did not want to get caught speeding again.

Hodges, who pleaded guilty to exceeding the 70mph limit, was banned from driving for 56 days.

Before delivering the sentence, the chairman of the bench said: “That speed at that time of day is not acceptable. Words fail me.”

Hodges, who had three penalty points on his licence, was also fined £461 and ordered to pay a £184 court surcharge and £90 costs.

Hodges, a roofer from Kent, appears to be huge fan of performance cars and motor sports.

His social media account shows him posing with exotic cars and attending events at race circuits.
