Sarah, Duchess of York, weighed into Phillip Schofield’s fall from grace after the presenter, 61, resigned from ITV following his controversial affair with a younger man who worked on This Morning.
Speaking on the latest episode of her podcast, Tea Talks, the Duchess said: “It’s the court of public opinion and also the court of massive bullying to the point of extermination of a soul.
“I don’t believe that anybody has that right to judge and exterminate a person’s own beliefs through their own failings or not. We all have failings…
“We don’t know all the facts and we certainly don’t know what people get up to, and then suddenly you are meant to know.”
Sarah then discussed Phillip’s BBC interview, in which he appeared in a highly emotional state.
The ex-wife of Prince Andrew urged people to remember “there is a human being at the end of this”.
She continued: “You can have your freedom of speech, you can say what you wish to say, just remember.
“I think that’s where Jeremy Clarkson was so spot on with his article, it was a very good piece.”
The article the 63-year-old is referring to is Jeremy’s most recent column for The Times.
In it, Jeremy called the treatment of Phil a “witch hunt” and wrote: “It seems to me he is only guilty of being what he said he was: gay.”
The Clarkson’s Farm star added that Phillip has maintained that the man was over the age of consent when their relationship became physical, but that “hasn’t silenced the howls of disgust”.
He also highlighted that Leonardo DiCaprio is known for dating much younger women and Al Pacino’s pregnant girlfriend is 54 years his junior.
Jeremy went on sarcastically: “But Phil and his toy boy? Noooo. That’s totally unacceptable… and we don’t want to see his disgusting face ever again.”
