Fergie calls herself an ‘Anglo-American’ ahead of Eugenie ‘move’

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, described the USA as her home in a recent interview. It comes shortly after speculation her daughter Princess Eugenie will be moving to the US. The Duchess spoke with Sherri Shephard on her daytime chat show.

The ex-wife of Prince Andrew credited the US for “gave my babies their mummy” in the interview, in which she was emphatic about her love of the country. Speaking to the actor and The View co-host, Sarah said: “I’m loving being home because I’m an Anglo-American.”

Both Sarah Ferguson’s parents were Britsh. Her father, Major Ronald Ivor Ferguson, was the son of Colonel Andrew Henry Ferguson and Marian Montagu Douglas Scott, who were both born in London and passed away in Hampshire.

However, the mother to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie did spend a lot of time in the US after her divorce.

In fact, the Duchess spent more than a decade living in the US after her split. She has recently sympathised with Prince Harry’s move to the country with his wife Meghan Markle.

She told The Telegraph: “I can’t speak for [Harry], But I will say that after I got divorced, I spent 12 years in America, writing books, and it was a wonderful place for me. I felt free there.”

During her time living in the US, worked for Weight Watchers. She undertook an 11-year endorsement with the brand.

The Duchess went on: “The American people have been so good to me. I even started a foundation in 1995 after the Oklahoma City bombing, just to say thank you to the Americans, because they really have given my babies their mummy. Because you gave me a job.”

Sarah Ferguson worked for eight years as an ambassador for Weight Watchers. She wrote five books with the weight loss company. She also set up her US charity Chances for Children.

While in the US the Duchess appeared on many popular TV programs including a special episode with Oprah in 2010, titled Oprah and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. She also made a cameo on US sitcom Friends.

Speaking on her touring of the US while working with Weight Watchers, the Duchess said: “I went Boise, Idaho, Oklahoma, Kansas City, you know, everywhere. So really I feel that America is my home, I love it.”

The Duchess of York and the Dukes of Sussex are not the only royals who have or who are upping sticks to live in the US. It’s rumoured Princess Eugenie is ditching the UK for the US in her very own “Megxit” style relocation.

She and her husband Jack Brooksbank are said to be looking at rental properties in West Hollywood, Los Angeles. This would put them in the same state as Harry and Meghan, with Eugenie said to be close to the former.

A lot of British royals have chosen to live in the US. Both Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice lived in New York for a time.

Lord Frederick Windsor and Sophie Winkleman, who is best known for playing Big Suze in Peep Show, lived in Los Angeles.
