Feminist writer says ‘brave’ star Adele must not be cancelled
Paola Diana, who successfully campaigned for a law in Italy that requires every company board to be at least 30 percent female, insisted women’s rights must not be eroded. Last week, Adele won the inaugural Artist Of The Year Brit award after female and male categories were eliminated. Taking to the stage, she said: “I understand why the name of this award has changed, but I really love being a woman and being a female artist. I do. I’m really proud of us – I really, really am.”
The singer was slammed online by trans activists and described as a “Terf” – a derogatory term that means “Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminist”.
However Paola – who believes trans women have the right to live their lives as they wish – has praised the singer, saying: “I love Adele, I love what she did.
“She is wonderful and well done for her to say that.
“There is a clash between trans rights and existing women’s rights and it needs to be possible to come up with a solution.
“We need brave people, we need brave politicians. We need people who have courage to say enough is enough. We cannot lose the women’s rights we have gained over centuries.” Paola, who wrote best-selling feminist book Saving The World, is currently presenting the podcast Unleashed: The Game Changers, interviewing women who she believes are changing the world.
She said she now believes women’s safe spaces, such as refuges, are at risk. “Many trans activists are eroding women’s rights,” she said
She added: “I want to tell people you’re free to talk. Don’t be scared. We have to be brave – we can’t go with the flow.”
