Feeling-it-out stage still for Michael Weiss, Azkals

Coach Michael Weiss doesn’t see familiarity and having one game in charge of his second tenure as indications that he already has an early idea of making the Philippine Azkals a unit he envisions.

“Please understand that I’m just here for a short while,” Weiss said when he was asked on the eve of the Azkals’ friendly against Chinese-Taipei at Rizal Memorial Stadium on Sunday.

“Even if I know and met many familiar faces, it’s still too early to answer this question,” added Weiss, who will look to get more ideas in the 7 p.m. match that wraps up the Azkals’ set of friendlies in this month’s international window.

There are high hopes within the Azkals camp after Weiss returned on a high note by guiding the team to a 1-0 nipping of Nepal last Thursday.

But Chinese-Taipei is expected to pose as a tougher side, especially after pulling off a 2-2 draw against Thailand last Friday, a result that impressed Weiss.

That type of quality match should be a good opportunity for the Azkals to grow moving into the next stage of preparations for the World Cup/Asian Cup Qualifiers.
