Farmer’s protest: Congress ups ante, Hooda seeks judicial probe into lathi-charge incident
Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly Bhupinder Singh Hooda is slated to meet the Governor on Tuesday even as PCC president Kumari Selja is scheduled to lead a Congress delegation to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) the same day to register their protest against the “inhuman” police action against the agitating farmers.
Former CM Hooda told ET, “The farmers were holding a peaceful dharna, almost 16 km from the venue of a BJP function. Yet, the administration and the police colluded to conduct an unprovoked brutal lathi-charge on the peacefully agitating farmers. I demand a judicial inquiry into the incident by a sitting or retired judge of the High Court”.
The fact that there have been many such incidents during the past seven months against agitating farmers in various parts of Haryana, he added, “makes it all the more a serious crime that warrants a judicial inquiry. I would be meeting the Governor on Tuesday to take up the matter”. Hooda also questioned the conduct of the sub divisional magistrate, whose action of ordering cops to be lethal with the agitating farmers, has triggered a major row.
