Fantasy sports platforms eye user base boost as IPL gathers pace
As per market estimates, the fantasy sports platforms could spend anywhere between ₹700 crore to ₹800 crore during the tournament.
Vikrant Mudaliar, the chief marketing officer of Dream Sports, which owns India’s largest fantasy sports platform, Dream11, sees the IPL as the biggest driver of user engagement. “As with every year, we expect to see growth in our user base, which has already crossed 150 million,” he noted.
Dream11, which is an official broadcast and streaming sponsor of Star Sports and JioCinema, has launched the ‘Sab Khelenge’ campaign for IPL 2023. It is also an official partner with seven of the 10 IPL teams.
“For IPL, our marketing efforts are heavily invested in digital platforms for user engagement and the acquisition of new users,” he stated.
A recent report by RedSeer Strategy Consultants notes that fantasy sports platforms are expected to record 30-35% growth in their gross gaming revenue at ₹2,900-3,100 crore during the IPL this year.
