Fans dub Shaq and Tom’s sports day feud ‘pettiest drama in Love Island history’

Love Island fans were up in arms tonight as they witnessed the second half of a double dumping with a twist, and then got a front row seat to the ‘pettiest drama in Love Island history’.

Keenan Brand and Claudia Fogarty were kicked out the villa by Olivia Hawkins and Maxwell Samuda, after the latter were given the unenviable task of choosing who came with them after being dumped themselves.

Also vulnerable after being voted the least compatible couples by the public were Rosie Seabrook and Casey O’Gorman, and Tanya Manhenga with other half Shaq Muhammad.

But in the end it was Keenan and Claudia who waved goodbye to their Love Island experience and jumped in a cab with the other two – much to the delight of viewers at home.

Then, in a classic Love Island end to the show, things got heated after a sports day challenge went wrong for Tom Clare when his rival team started cheating.

After a bit of banter and prodding fun at the Islander, who the boys dubbed a ‘bad loser’, fun turned sour when Shaq just, er, took the joke a bit too far.

Shaq’s partner Tanya told him to stop being ‘petty’ when jokes turned into jibes after the challenge, which saw two teams compete in Love Island sports day.

But tensions rose in a controversial egg and spoon race, which the red team won after they appeared to use their thumbs to secure their breakable goods.

But the cheating continued, and so did the teasing, as the team chanted, ‘Tom’s gonna cry in a minute’ when they noticed he was visibly rattled by the unsportsmanlike behaviour.

In the evening, tensions reached breaking point between Shaq and Tom after the cheating red team went on to win – and gloat, a lot.

The boys went on a ‘mission poke the bear’ to which Tom told viewers ‘they need to know when enough is enough sometimes’.

Casey called him the ‘sorest loser of them all’ and presented him with a trophy, and Shaq swooped in and told him to ‘smile’.

Laughter eked out and things got awkward as Shaq continued to bombard Tom with jokes, and Tanya asked Shaq ‘are you done now’ amid an awkward silence.

Eek.

Some viewers sided with Tom and others with Shaq, while most were just exasperated at the pair of them.

One person asked, ‘where has this argument come from’, as another said: ‘this is the most petty cast ever the fact they can make a big argument over the sports day is hilarious’. [sic]

Another questioned: ‘Why is Shaq trying to cause an argument?’

‘Tom is so emotional over the pettiest s**t but nonchalant as hell over what actually matters,’ wrote another.

Whatever their view, Love Islanders seemed to be invested in the episode, which was a little more dramatic than others of late.

One fan summed it up: ‘This is what love island has been missing, a bit of gossip, random arguments, islanders giving unsolicited opinions of each other. The whole kumbaya, only spill the tea in interviews and podcasts after the show, is boring imo.’ [sic]

Love Island continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2.
