A CLASSIC Ferrari used in a famous movie has sold at auction for big money, but there’s a reason it didn’t sell for more.

Cinephiles were shocked on discovering the car was going to be auctioned.

A replica of a Ferrari 250 GT California was used in the iconic 80s movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

The prop car has sold for a whopping £277,701 – and it doesn’t even drive.

A real 250 GT California could cost as much as £13million.

It was used in the scene when Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck) saw his father’s beloved car get destroyed.

The replica was up for auction with Heritage Auctions.

Real California Spyder models are one of the most desirable classic cars and can go for millions.

That’s why producers had a highly detailed copy made by Modena Design & Development.

Dallas-based Heritage Auctions explained: “This ‘crash car’ was built and used solely for this memorable sequence as it hurled backwards through the glass of Cameron’s father’s garage falling to the ground below.

“This ‘car’ is a prop and not a functioning automobile. There is no engine or drivetrain present.”

The car has a fibreglass body bolted to a rolling chassis.

It’s also kitted out with tan vinyl seats, a matte black fibreglass dashboard with instrumentation and a wood-trimmed steering wheel.

The patterned sweater vest worn by the actor Matthew Broderick throughout the film was also sold for £118,271.

People on facebook were amazed at the prop and its price.

One said: “Dear Santa, I’ve been good.”

Another said: “OMG. My husband would be all over this.”

A third pointed out: “Could you imagine? I mean, we’ve seen some cool cars. This is different.”
