Failed star gone as Broncos slash team again

Broncos coach Kevin Walters is tipped to continue a wild season of team changes, with halfback Brodie Croft dropped for Round 22 in favour of Albert Kelly.

Queensland Origin winger Xavier Coates, signed with Melbourne for next season, is tipped to return after a month on the outer. He will replace Jamayne Isaako and start alongside Selwyn Cobbo, who pushes out Jesse Arthars at right centre for Friday’s clash against the Roosters.

Croft’s tumultuous time as a Broncos player is likely over. He has now signed a Super League deal with Salford for the next two seasons and almost certainly played his last game for Brisbane in last Thursday’s loss to Newcastle; a match in which he recorded zero runs, capping a failed club switch from Melbourne.

Kelly will take good memories into the Roosters clash, having inspired a 34-16 upset of the Tricolours when he made his Broncos debut in Round 11.

Contracted only for this season, the enigmatic playmaker will hope to convince Brisbane that he’s worth another try next year. Croft and Milford will both be leaving the club, while current five-eighth Tyson Gamble was signed for another two seasons.

The Broncos sit 15th, six points clear of the last-placed Bulldogs and almost guaranteed to avoid the wooden spoon after winning it last year.
