Fabio Paratici quits Tottenham with immediate effect

Tottenham managing director Fabio Paratici has resigned with immediate effect after failing to have his FIFA worldwide football ban overturned. The ban means that the Italian is no longer able to fulfil his duties and has decided to take a step back from the club to focus on his own legal position.

Paratici was initially banned by the Italian Football Federation for 30 months after being implicated in the alleged financial mismanagement at Juventus. The ban was then also adopted by FIFA and he tried to appeal however it was rejected by the Italian Olympic Committee’s Board of Guarantors on Thursday.

Paratici had initially taken a leave of absence when the Italian ban was adopted worldwide by FIFA but he has now left the club permanently after it was not overturned.

It does not appear that Tottenham will look to appoint a direct replacement as the club completes an internal restructure as confirmed by chairman Daniel Levy as he spoke on Paratici’s departure.

“This has been a stressful time for Fabio and his family,” Levy said. “We wanted to ensure that we allowed for due process to be followed. Fabio is a man who lives and breathes football – we wish him well.

“As outlined in our year end results, we started several months ago to restructure our football operations and last week announced the appointment of Scott Munn as Chief Football Officer to head up all the departments. We shall continue to strengthen our football functions over the coming months.”

Paratici was not the only former Juventus official to fail in his bid to have his ban overturned yesterday with Andrea Agnelli and Federico Cherubini in the same boat. However, Pavel Nedved, Paolo Garimberti and Enrico Vellano had their arguments accepted and have been cleared of any wrongdoing.

There was also good news for Juventus themselves as they had their 15-point deduction overturned too. The Old Lady have now climbed from seventh to third in the Serie A in a huge boost to their prospects of being in the Champions League next season.

Paratici initially joined Spurs in June 2021 and helped the club finish fourth in the Premier League last season.

He had been set to lead the club’s search for a new manager following the departure of Antonio Conte however this responsibility will now be passed on to others at the club.
