Expat exposes reality of life in Paris with shoebox room

An American expat living in Paris has shown off her tiny apartment in a TikTok video and some people might be shocked by its size.

TikToker, @hailz, lives in Paris and showed another TikToker, @Calebwsimpson, around her tiny Parisian apartment.

She said she paid 750 euros (£641) per month for the apartment and offered to show the TikToker around her place.

The small apartment was 129 square feet and Caleb exclaimed: “Oh my God, it is a shoebox.”

Her fold-out bed doubled as a couch and she kept it made even when she wasn’t using it as a bed in the day.

The studio had a tiny kitchen with a hob but no microwave and one small cupboard to store food in.

However, the tiny apartment did have a pretty balcony with nice views and the bathroom was decently sized.

Even though the apartment was small, the expat said it had been her dream to move to Paris and said “she’d absolutely loved it”.

Despite the apartment’s size, many of the people who commented on the video said they actually thought it was a good deal.

One person ‘Gabi’ said: “750 in New York would be a bed in a room with four other people.”

‘Kelly Stout’ said: “Okay the balcony makes up for it though. Those views must be magnificent.”

‘Annika’ said: “Why do I pay 650 euros (£556) for a shared apartment with three people without a balcony and not in Paris.”

According to statistics from Eurostat, Geneva is Europe’s most expensive city to rent property in.

London was the continent’s second most expensive while Dublin took third place, so residents from both cities are unlikely to be shocked by Paris’ prices.

Vilnius, Lithuania’s capital city, wasn’t one of the more expensive places to rent but had seen the biggest increase in the price of rentals.
