EXCLUSIVE: DC Reveals the Face Under Robin Villain Respawn’s Mask

Respawn stands unmasked during a tense confrontation with Deathstroke himself in a first look at DC’s Deathstroke Inc. #7.

Deathstroke and Robin are heading for an explosive collision course, with Slade coming face-to-face with Damian Wayne’s latest enemy Respawn in an exclusive preview of Deathstroke Inc. #7.

Respawn was created by writer Joshua Williamson and artist Gleb Melnikov as a mysterious antagonist for Damian in the Tournament of Lazarus. Dressed similarly as Deathstroke and appearing alongside Slade’s teenage daughter Ravager, the young antihero has a clear connection to the notorious assassin. Respawn’s introduction coincides with Deathstroke proclaiming himself King of the Super-Villains, embracing his evil nature rather than making any sort of attempt at redemption as he moves to seize control of the Secret Society of Super-Villains.

In a preview of March’s Deathstroke Inc. #7, written by Williamson, illustrated by Stephen Segovia and colored by Hi-Fi, Ravager and Respawn confront Deathstroke directly, only for Slade to forcibly unmask Respawn. To Deathstroke’s shock, Respawn bears a striking resemblance to Slade, right down to the contract killer’s white hair. The sight of this young doppelgänger makes Deathstroke stop dead in his tracks, prompting an overdue conversation between Slade and his daughter about Respawn.

Robin and Deathstroke Inc. are slated to cross over in “Shadow War,” written by Williamson, with the prologue issue Shadow War: Alpha #1 illustrated by Viktor Bogdanovic. The crossover pits Deathstroke against Talia al Ghul, kicking off with the murder of Ra’s al Ghul as Batman and Robin are caught in the crossfire. This upcoming conflict is complicated by the presence of Ravager and Respawn, with Slade always having an unpredictable stance on how he deals with family.

Deathstroke has similarly been teased to play a major role in this summer’s DC event Dark Crisis, written by Williamson and illustrated by Daniel Sampere. In a preview for the event’s opening issue, Deathstroke is seen lurking in the shadows as the DC Universe mourns the deaths of the Justice League, with Williamson hinting the assassin plans to take advantage of the situation caused by the team’s demise.
