Ex-WWE star Eddie Dennis retires aged 37, months after NXT UK closure
Welsh wrestler Eddie Dennis has announced his retirement at the age of 37.
Eddie was part of Sunday night’s Revolution Rumble for RevPro, and anything other than a win would see him hang up his boots.
Fans on Twitter have been struggling with the idea he’s actually calling time on his career, with one follower tweeting: ‘You surely aren’t retiring? Be a huge miss if thats you finished! (sic)’
‘That is me done,’ he wrote, before adding to another disappointed supporter: ‘Don’t be sad. Be happy the last 15 years happened. I am!’
Some fans have been sceptical about the retirement, with one person pointing out that Eddie’s old home Attack Pro Wrestling is returning, and they’ll be teaming up with Riot Cabaret for a Friends Stand United joint show.
On the independent scene, Eddie enjoyed great success as one half of F.S.U. with fellow Welsh star Mark Andrews, but he reiterated that he really is done.
He responded: ‘I can see why you would think that but I can assure you that this is 100% it for me.
‘@MandrewsJunior asked if he thought it was still cool Riot called the show FSU and of course I think it’s a wonderful name for a collaboration show.’
His fellow stars have started to pay tribute, with Mark among them as he shared a professional shot of them hugging in the ring and wrote: ‘Thank you, Eddie ❤️
Mark and Eddie’s fellow Welshman and WWE alum Flash Morgan Webster also took to Twitter and paid his respects, hailing him as a selfless performer.
He tweeted: ‘@EddieDennis1986 ‘s last act of his career was getting the crowd to rally & get behind OJMO as he left sums up Eddie’s career/Eddie as a human. Truly Unselfish until the end Thanks for everything brother, wouldn’t be the wrestler I am today without you x #ThankYouEddie’
