Ex-teammates clash with Origin hopes at a ‘tipping point’

Dolphins enforcer Felise Kaufusi was a man on a mission early against his former club with the second-rower sent to the sin bin after two minutes against the Storm.

Kaufusi was notably fired up at kick-off and his attitude continued early on when he put a high shot on ex-teammate Christian Welch.

The Queensland Origin hopeful was handed a 10-minute break by referee Grant Atkins and could face the wrath of the match review committee, putting his chance at another Maroon jersey in doubt.

NRL legend Greg Alexander was shocked by the actions of Kaufusi and didn’t shy away from criticising the enforcer.

“How costly will that be for the Dolphins?,” he said on Fox League.

“That’s crazy stuff, that really is.”

Queensland Origin greats Mal Meninga and Cooper Cronk believe Kaufusi is unlikely to appear in Game I of State of Origin.

The second-rower was sent to the sin bin two minutes into the game and is likely to face trouble with the match review committee.

“You kind of hope he just gets a fine, but based on his history … maybe one or two weeks,” Meninga said on Fox League

Cronk: “I think it’s on a tipping point, it really sits on that ledge of whether it falls over to one week or whether he gets lucky with an escape.”

“He over-cooked it early.”

The incident then sparked a melee between both sides with the Storm scoring through winger Will Warbrick while the Dolphins were down to 12 men.

Upon Kaufusi’s return to the field, Jamayne Isaako scored before footage captured the ex-Storm star physically barging past Welch in back play to continue the rivalry.
