Ex-Disney World staff reveal big mistakes visitors make at the park every year
DISNEY WORLD is meant to be a magical experience for all the family, but some people get to the park and ruin it for everyone.
Former staff, or cast members as they’re known at the park, have revealed the biggest mistakes guests always make that spoil their holidays.
So if you want to make the most of your trip to the magical kingdom, follow the etiquette and listen to what the experts have to say, and you shouldn’t have any problems.
The first mistake that people make at Disney World is asking for freebies.
The cast members are the park are trained to provide people who they think deserve it with magical moments, off the cuff.
Asking for them to do things for guests can really spoil the atmosphere.
Former staff member Tiffany D told Insider: “Cast members are trained to observe and listen to all the guests, and when they see an opportunity for a magical moment, make it happen. It really ruins the magic when it’s forced or asked for.
Something else than can lower the tone is making obscene or rude gestures when getting your photo taken on board rides.
A lot of thrillseekers are tempted to pull a stupid face or flick the Vs when the camera takes their picture on a rollercoaster, but doing it at a Disney park can even get you in trouble.
Former Disneyland cast member Jodie D. told Insider: “If you make an offensive gesture in the photo, we can’t sell it to you, because it’s against Disney’s ethos.”
Gestures aren’t the only way park guests can ruin the family-friendly environment of a Disney park, with other people drinking too much, or getting physical with cast members.
However, one thing that apparently happens frequently is guests not using the toilets and instead going in bushes while queueing for rides.
The lines to get on some of the rides may be long, but there are plenty of places to go to the toilet before standing in one.
Ex-cast member Natalie O told Insider: “I get it, when you’ve been in line forever and your kiddo suddenly has to go, it’s super frustrating. But this is a serious health hazard, gross, rude, and completely inconsiderate.”
While there are plenty of people who make mistakes at the park, there are those who make costly errors before they’ve even arrived.
Rushing the booking process means some visitors spend much more than they need to on their Disney breaks.
According to Oliver Brendon, CEO of AttractionTickets.com, there are some tricks holidaymakers can use to get more for their money.
One thing he recommends is making sure tickets are booked with cancellation protection.
He said: “Nothing is worse than purchasing a holiday and then being unable to go – whether it comes included or with a fee, getting cancellation protection is definitely worth it.”
He also recommends shopping around to make sure you get the best offers.
He added: “The beauty of shopping around and taking advantage of ticket specialists means that they often have so many offers that you can redeem before or during your stay.
“From free extra nights to food and drinks offers, these freebies can make your experience extra special.”
